Round 5 - Malaysia bounces back

 Both the Open and Women team bounced back after a poor showing in the initial rounds. Finally clear wins that should lift the morale of both the teams!

The Malaysian Open team won 4-0 against Ghana whereas the Women team won 3-1 South Africa.

Malaysians playing in Chennai Olympiad 2022

  The Malaysian team to play in the coming 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai was confirmed on 23rd June 2022 by Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) According to announcement on their website, the Open and Women section, Malaysia is sending 5 players each. Also accompanying the players will be MCF officials headed by Muhammad Firdaus Ismail as Head of Delegation, with FM Sumant Subramaniam acting as the Open Team Manager and IM Mok Tze Meng as the Women Team Manager. The Open team members are: FM Lim Zhuo Ren, FM Lye Lik Zang, FM Wong Yinn Long, Poh Yu Tian National Master CM Tan Jun Ying The Women’s Team members are: sisters WIM Puteri Munajjah and  WFM Puteri Rifqah WCM Sim Jia Ru National Women Master WIM Siti Zulaikha Foudzi WFM Agnes Chong Kai Ni The National squad is already to departed to India on 27th July 2022 and return back to Malaysia on 11th August 2022.  We wish the Malaysian squad the best and Good Luck!!

Malaysia's Young Team

This may be Malaysia's youngest ever team to the Olympiad. In fact thanks to the number counting by New Zealand Chess, Malaysia ranks as the 5th youngest in the 44th Olympiad held in Chennai 2022. Youngest 10 open teams: Myanmar - 5 players, avg. = 17.6 Hong Kong - 5 players, avg. = 17.8 Bulgaria - 5 players, avg. = 19 India 2 - 5 players, avg. = 19.6 Malaysia - 5 players, avg. = 20 Uzbekistan - 5 players, avg. = 20.4 Sri Lanka - 5 players, avg. = 20.4 Lesotho - 5 players, avg. = 20.8 Syria - 5 players, avg. = 21.8 Iran - 5 players, avg. = 22 Definitely promising to see new blood..
